Strength Training Exercise for Diabetes

Since being diagnosed with diabetes, I have made a concerted effort to change my lifestyle in many ways for the better. One of those was to incorporate exercise. I found with kids, the job, work around the house, etc. that home exercise equipment worked best for me. I purchased a Nordic Track Ski Machine from a friend. It's small, folds for storage, and provides a pretty good cardio workout. A recent U.S. News & World Report article I read emphasized the importance of strength training. Here's a brief of what was said.

"Getting 20 to 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week is going to help keep the weight off long term. At the Joslin Diabetes Center, the staff emphasizes strength training as an important component. "People maintain their lean muscle mass, and that has the advantage of disposing of a larger amount of glucose from the bloodstream," says Osama Hamdy, medical director of the obesity clinical program at Joslin."
