What is Diabetes?Diabetes is a disorder of metabolism—the way our bodies use digested food for growth and energy. Most of the food we eat is broken down into glucose, the form of sugar in the blood. Glucose is the main source of fuel for the body. Metabolic Syndrome XMany people with diabetes have what's often called Metabolic Syndrome, a "cluster" of other health problems in addition to diabetes. These other problems include high blood pressure, bad cholesterol and obesity. Many researchers believe that the Metabolic Syndrome may be associated with insulin resistance, a condition in which your body does not use insulin well and is common with type 2 diabetes. |
